HOUSTON - (Saturday, July 16, 2016) - The Houston Dash picked up their third victory of the season this evening by defeating Portland Thorns FC 3-0 at BBVA Compass Stadium.
The game winning goal came in the 7th minute when Dash F Rachel Daly found MF Kealia Ohai making a run along the right flank. The team captain dribbled into the box and delivered a cross intended for MF Melissa Henderson. The cross missed Henderson but Daly struck it at the edge of the six-yard box for her second goal of the season.
This was the first goal Houston scored since May 7 against FC Kansas City, a span of 567 minutes. This was also the first victory for the club after losing six consecutive games by identical 1-0 score lines.
The second goal of the game came in the 68th minute when D Rebecca Moros found MF Amber Brooks inside the six-yard box. The midfielder scored her first goal with the club with a shot to the near post.
Ohai scored her first goal of the season in the 83rd minute when she dribbled into the box and beat Thorns GK Michelle Betos at the far post.
Daly almost doubled her tally in the 12th minute with a shot outside the box but the ball was handled by Betos.
Ohai was a constant threat throughout the game and in the 16th minute she found MF Denise O'Sullivan inside the box. The Irish midfielder missed the mark as her shot went over the crossbar.
Portland's best opportunity of the first half came in the 25th minute when MF Celeste Boureille's shot near the penalty spot went over the crossbar.
Two minutes later the Dash were awarded a free kick outside the box. Daly's right-footed shot was punched over the crossbar by Betos.
Henderson found Brooks outside the six-yard box in the 50th minute but her shot went over the crossbar.
The Dash travel to Chicago next weekend for a rematch of the season opener. The Dash will attempt to string two consecutive victories for the first time since last season. Houston defeated the Western New York Flash 1-0 on the road on July 25 and four days later defeated FC Kansas City at home 3-2.
