Hounds win 5-1 over Rage

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Youngstown SteelHounds defeated the Rocky Mountain Rage 5-1 on Sunday afternoon from the Chevrolet Centre. The Hounds take two-of-three from the Rage over the weekend to improve to 23-14-2 (48 points) and are now one point back of the Mississippi RiverKings (24-14-1, 49 points) for second place in the Northeast Division. Rocky Mountain drops to 28-7-3 (59 points) but stay in first place in the Northwest Division.

After a scoreless first period rookie Andrew Scampoli scored his first goal as a SteelHound at 3:57 to make it 1-0. Mark Johnson tipped an Eric Main slap shot past Scott Reid 1:22 later to put Youngstown up 2-0 after two periods. The goal led to a fight that featured both Reid and Hounds goaltender Andy Franck. Neither goaltender received game misconducts but Reid was benched by Head Coach Tracy Egeland in favor of Terry Dunbar.

In the third period Eric Main scored his second goal in three games as a Hound and his fourth of the season overall at 5:03 to make it 3-0.

The lone bright spot for Rocky Mountain came at 8:30 as Daymen Rycroft scored his league leading 34th goal of the season to make it a 3-1 game. Rycroft now has a 10 game goal scoring streak. Mark Johnson scored his second goal of the game at 11:36 to put Youngstown up 4-1. Johnson also had an assist giving the second year pro his first three point game of his career. Eric Przepiorka capped off the scoring for the Hounds with his team leading 19th of the year at 14:09 to make it a 5-1 win. Andy Franck made 25 saves on 26 shots for the Hounds in the victory.

The Hounds finish the six game home stand 3-2-1 and are 9-5-1 at the Chevrolet Centre. Youngstown returns to the road for two games starting Friday night when they visit the Odessa Jackalopes at 8:05. All SteelHounds games are available on ESPN Radio 1240 and SteelHounds.com.
