Charlotte Hounds News Release

The Charlotte Hounds on Sunday afternoon picked up their first win of the 2013 season, beating the Rochester Rattlers 15-8 in front of 1,031 fans at Sahlen's Stadium in Rochester, NY. Peet Poillon led the way for the Hounds, scoring five goals including two 2-pointers. The seven-point performance earned him Player of the Game honors.

The Rattlers won the opening faceoff and got a quick shot off, but Adam Ghitleman made the save and cleared the ball to Brett Schmidt, who took it in transition and dished to Brian Carroll for the game's first goal. But less than two minutes later, Chris Schiller was called for pushing, and the Rattlers took advantage of their first man-up opportunity with a goal by Matt Striebel to tie it at 1-1. However the Hounds reclaimed the lead on a 2-point goal by Poillon to end the first quarter with a 3-1 advantage.

About four minutes into the second, Jordan MacIntosh pulled the Rattlers back within one, 3-2, off a highlight-reel behind-the-back goal. But the Hounds wasted no time responding, as Tim Fallon won the ensuing faceoff, streaked straight to the cage and put one past John Galloway. Carroll extended the Hounds lead to 5-2 after burying a feed from Jovan Miller with 9:23 remaining in the half. But the Rattlers stole the momentum, registering back-to-back goals from Ned Crotty and Rob Rotanz to close the Hounds lead to one, 5-4, going into the intermission.

Poillon came out shooting in the third, tallying back-to-back goals to push the Hounds advantage to 7-4 with 9:15 to play in the quarter. Three-and-a-half minutes later, Crotty was working behind the cage and caught Ghitelman off guard with a wrap around shot to cut the Rattlers' deficit to two. But then Michael Lazore was called for holding, and Poillon capitalized on the man-up opportunity, scoring his second 2-point goal of the game to extend the Hounds lead to 9-5 going into the final quarter.

The Rattlers opened the fourth with quick back-to-back strikes from Rotanz and Dan Groot to pull within two, 9-7. But the Hounds responded with a four-goal run, featuring another Poillon goal and two scores from Eric Lusby, including his first career 2-pointer, to pull ahead 14-7 with 1:32 to go in the game. During the run, Ryan Young's goal was challenged by Rattlers head coach Tim Soudan, who claimed Young had violated the crease, but the officials ultimately ruled that the goal would stand. Mike Leveille put one more on the board for the Rattlers, but Carroll sealed the15-8 victory for the Hounds, scoring his third of the game with 48 seconds left on the clock. Ghitelman finished with 11 saves on 19 shots, while Fallon went 11-24 at the X.

The Hounds improve to 1-1 on the season, while the Rattlers fall to 0-2. The teams won't have to wait long for a rematch though, as the Rattlers travel to Charlotte this weekend to face the Hounds at American Legion Memorial Stadium on Saturday, May 11 at 7:00pm ET.
