Aiken Foxhounds News Release
AIKEN, S.C. - Travis Kane shook off a first inning home run to pitch eight strong innings as the Bradenton Juice (45-38, 21-18) defeated the Aiken Foxhounds (39-45, 17-22) 7-3 Thursday night in the first of a three-games series at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. The series was originally scheduled to take place in Bradenton, Fla. but was moved to Aiken due to scheduling conflicts, thus the Foxhounds were the visitors on the scoreboard.
Kelly Hunt drilled his league-leading 24 th home run to give the Foxhounds a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but it was all Bradenton from that point on.
Aiken starter Brian Grijalva ran into trouble in bottom of the second, allowing three runs on three hits. With two outs and two runners on, Luke Barganier drilled an 0-1 pitch to the left-center field gap for a two-run triple.
Bradenton would benefit from an Aiken error to score two unearned runs in the third to take a 5-2 lead.
After giving up Hunt's home run in the first, Kane had little trouble with the Hounds lineup the rest of the way. Kane (7-1) went 8.0 innings, scattering eight hits and giving up two runs while striking out seven.
Grijalva (1-4) left after four innings, allowing five runs, three earned, on seven hits while walking two and striking out three.
The Juice scored a run apiece in both the seventh and eighth innings. Mikela Olsen singled in a run in the seventh, and Barganier drove in his third run with a single in the eighth.
Evandy DeLeon drove in a run in the top of the ninth with an RBI double off the wall in center for the final margin.
Hunt, Bradley Key, and Andy Lane each had two hits for the Foxhounds. Julius Thames led Bradenton with three hits in five at-bats. Drew York and Barganier added two apiece.
