Hounds Complete Sweep Of Thunder With Shootout Win

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Youngstown SteelHounds defeated the Wichita Thunder 3-2 on a shootout on Sunday afternoon. The Hounds (32-19-4, 68 points) remain in fourth place in the Northern Conference.

Bryan Lachapelle scored his fifth goal of the season at 10:19 of the first period to put Youngstown up 1-0. Travis Clayton scored an unassisted shorthanded goal at 12:39 to tie it 1-1 after 20 minutes. Youngstown was 0-6 on the power play while Wichita was 0-3.

In the second period Joel Irving scored his 22nd goal of the season at 1:08 to give Youngstown a 2-1 lead after two periods. Irving had a goal and an assist on the night giving him 22 goals and 33 assists on the season. Kevin Jarman had two assists giving him 17 along with 19 goals for 36 points.

In the third period Stan Yanchishyn scores at 2:04 to tie the game at two to force overtime and the eventual shootout. In the shootout Andy Franck stopped all five Thunder shots and Chris Richards netted the only one needed to give Youngstown a 3-2 win. Richards had a goal and two assists on the night giving him 20 goals as well as a team leading 46 assists and 66 points. Andy Franck made 28 saves on 30 shots for his 20th victory of the season. The three game sweep is the first for Youngstown in two years as they completed a three game sweep of the Fort Worth Brahmas from March 22-25, 2006.

The Hounds return to the road to complete their last trip of the season. The three game road trip begins on Friday night when they take on the Rocky Mountain Rage at 9:05. All SteelHounds games are available on ESPN Radio 1240 and SteelHounds.com.
