Aiken Foxhounds News Release
AIKEN , S.C. - The Aiken Foxhounds (40-46, 18-23) closed their home schedule at Roberto Hernandez Stadium just as they started in May, on a winning note. The Hounds defeated the Bradenton Juice (46-39, 22-19) 7-5 Saturday night in their last game at their home stadium. The series was originally scheduled to take place in Bradenton, Fla. but was moved to Aiken due to scheduling conflicts, thus the Foxhounds were the visitors on the scoreboard.
For the third straight game, the Foxhounds started the game by scoring two runs in the top of the first. Tony Harper had an RBI single as part of a five-hit inning that gave the Hounds a 2-0 lead.
Bradenton jumped ahead with four runs in the bottom of the third. After opposing pitcher reached with one out on an error, the flood gates were open for the Juice against Aiken starter Steve Dunham. After getting two outs, Bradenton pounded out four hits to score four unearned runs.
Aiken wasted little time reclaiming the lead in the top of the fourth. After loading the bases with no outs, Dunham walked to bring in a run. After two consecutive unproductive outs, Kelly Hunt drove in a pair with a single to left.
Dunham (8-8), attempting to redeem himself for his last outing when he failed to get out of the first inning, worked five innings to even his season record. The hurler did not allow an earned run on six hits while striking out three.
Andy Lane plated a run with an RBI double in the fifth, and Bradley Key drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
The Juice plated a sole run in the bottom of the eighth for the final margin. A.J. Montano worked a perfect ninth for his eighth save, striking out Zach Woodward to close out the Hounds season at Hernandez Stadium.
Five Foxhounds players - Hunt, Harper, Key, Lane, and Garth McKinney - collected two hits apiece in the contest. Hunt drove in two runs while McKinney came across to score twice.
Aiken will close out their inaugural season in Port Charlotte, Fla., against the Charlotte Country Redfish with the games being played Sunday through Tuesday.
