Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release

Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC has acquired forward Tommy Williamson on a season-long loan agreement with the San Jose Earthquakes of MLS, pending USL Championship, MLS and USSF approval.

Williamson, 21, was the 12th overall pick in this year's MLS SuperDraft by the Earthquakes as a senior out of the University of California. A native of Villa Park, Calif., the 6-foot-1 striker brings size and a goal-scoring track record to the Hounds.

"We are grateful to the Earthquakes' technical staff for trusting us with Tommy's development in the early stages of his pro career," Riverhounds head coach Bob Lilley said. "He is a talented young striker with good mobility and tactical awareness that will fit well with how we want to play. We are excited to have Tommy on board for the 2021 USL season representing our organization and the city of Pittsburgh."

Williamson's draft stock rose immensely during his last full season at Cal.

As a junior in 2019, he earned second-team All-Pac-12 honors with nine goals in 18 games for the Bears. Though he began the season coming off the bench, his early-season play, which included goals in three straight games, earned him a spot in the starting lineup for the final 12 matches of the season.

Williamson didn't have a chance to build on his junior season with the Bears, as the Pac-12 did not play soccer in the fall of 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The first-year pro joined the Hounds this week in training, and he will be eligible for selection to the team beginning this Saturday when the team visits Indy Eleven for its fifth of six preseason matches.
