Honors Bestowed on WCHL Teams

Published on April 4, 2002 under West Coast Hockey League (WCHL) News Release

Boise, ID - Two hundred eighty-eight times from October through May, armored men take to the ice to battle their foes using curved sticks and frozen rubber disks. Driven by competitive spirits and chanting fans, these men receive praise and glory from their communities. How is it, though, that they are afforded the opportunity to pursue their athletic dreams? The answer is simple; it is made possible by the long hours and hard work of their off-ice teammates.

Who? I speak of those who toil equally hard as the athletes to make a career in professional sports, but seldom receive either praise or glory. The skill and talent of a front office staff can make or break a sports team. It is their ability to excite fans, build loyalty, strengthen communities and propel business partnerships that enables the players to head to the rink everyday.

The Best of the WCHL Awards are designed to honor the exceptional off-ice performances of member teams and their staff in a range of categories. Nominations are received from each team and voted on by the League office. The West Coast Hockey League will announce the 2001-2002 season-ending awards beginning next week. The awards will be announced on the following schedule:
