Rochester Honkers News Release
(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers lost their third in a row, and first of a five-game series, to the Thunder Bay Border Cats on Saturday, June 30th by a final score of 4-2.
Rochester starter Nick Dolsky (DMACC) lasted just 2.0 innings in his 2012 Honkers debut and surrendered two runs (one unearned) on one hit. Both runs scored on Dolsky came in the bottom of the first inning and were the result of two walks, a hit-by-pitch, a pass ball, a hit and an error. Dolsky starts his season off to 0-1 start.
Honkers reliever Jordan Millbrath (Augustana) came on in relief and lasted the next 5.0 innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits.
Honkers catcher Cole Lankford (Texas A&M) launched his first homerun of the season in the top of the third inning to put his team on the board and pull to within a run of the Border Cats. Lankford finished the night 2 for 4.
Thunder Bay would however answer with a run in the bottom half of the inning and another in the fifth to go ahead 4-1.
The Honkers loaded the bases in the top of the seventh inning and a two-out walk to second baseman Justin Protacio (Kansas) forced in a run to make it 4-2, but centerfielder Jordan Parr (Illinois) struck out to end the inning and leave three runners on base.
The score would remain the same for the remainder of the game giving the Honkers a loss in game-one.
Justin Parr (Illinois), Brandon Defazio (San Mateo), Lankford, Michael Lukkason (Dakota Wesleyan), and Jared Allen (Tennessee) all went 2 for 4 in the defeat.
The Honkers and Border Cats will meet again for game two of the five-game set tomorrow, July 1st. The Canada Day celebration will feature a first pitch from Thunder Bay scheduled for 12:35 PM. Right hander Kevin Johnson (Illinois) will start for the Honkers and square off against Border Cats lefty Blake Fonfara (Lipscomb).
Johnson is 0-0 in four appearances with a 5.50 ERA and Fonfara is 3-1 in six appearances and a 3.25 ERA.
The Honkers will not be home again until Saturday, July 7th at 7:05 PM when they battle the Willmar Stingers.
