Ohio Machine News Release
In front of a full home crowd at Selby Stadium, team captain Marcus Holman scored six goals to lead the Ohio Machine (2-3) past the Charlotte Hounds (1-4) by a score of 14-10.
After two straight games on the road and a tough loss last Saturday in Florida, the Machine was finally able to set the record straight and come out on top in front of their home crowd.
Substituting their usual gray helmets for all blacks ones for the evening, the Machine got off to a quick start. After just four minutes in the first quarter Holman put the Machine on the scoreboard first by becoming just the second player in a Machine uniform to score 50 goals.
The first quarter ended in a back-and-forth fashion before the Machine was able to extend their lead heading into halftime. Ohio was able to outscore Charlotte 5-2 in the second quarter to have a comfortable 8-4 lead at the half.
Ohio opened the second half just as they closed the first with Peter Baum finding the back of the net for his 13th time this season.
While the Hounds were able to score in the third quarter, Ohio never allowed them to pull within four as Holman, Baum and Kyle Harrison extended the Machine's lead to seven heading into the final quarter.
In the end, the high-scoring Machine offense proved to be too much for the Hounds as seven Ohio players put themselves in the scoring column, including four players doing so multiple times. The 14 goals scored by Ohio are the most they have scored in a game this season.
Like the offense, the Machine defense never allowed Charlotte to get back in the game. Led by Brian Phipps who stood strong in the goal with 21 saves, Ohio held the Hounds to 10 goals which is the second lowest so far this season.
With the win, the Machine have won three straight over the Hounds and will improve their record to 2-3 on the season.
Using the momentum from this victory over Charlotte, the Machine is set to propel forward as they will be back in action on Sunday, May 24 when the Florida Launch visit Selby Stadium.
