Hohensee Signs Contract Extension

September 27, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Chicago Rush News Release

The Chicago Rush has signed head coach Mike Hohensee to a contract extension that will keep Hohensee on the team's sideline through at least the 2011 season, the team announced today.

The only head coach in team history, Hohensee has built the Rush into one of the Arena Football League's most-consistent winners, reaching the playoffs in each of its seven years and winning the 2006 ArenaBowl title.

In its seven seasons under Hohensee, the Rush has compiled a 72-51 overall record and is the only AFL team to reach the conference championship game in each of the last four seasons. Overall, the Rush has reached the AFL's Final Four five times - only San Jose (six times) has advanced more often in the past seven years.

"There is not a coach around who is more deserving of a contract extension than Mike Hohensee," said Rush president/general manager Mike Polisky. "Coach Ho has done everything we've asked since coming to Chicago - both on and off the field. We are fortunate to have him leading our team."

"My family and I appreciate the Rush organization extending my contract," said Hohensee. "There is no better place to coach or play Arena Football than Chicago. The fans have been very supportive and have made Chicago one of the toughest road venues in the league.

"My relationship with the owners has grown into one of tremendous respect and trust over the past seven years. They always have given us the resources to compete for a championship and I believe this will always be the case. I am excited about the players and staff we have in place, and extremely excited about the players we plan on pursuing in the near future to bring another ArenaBowl championship to Chicago."

Hohensee is one of the Arena Football League's most recognizable figures, dedicating his life to helping grow the AFL. One of only four people involved with the league in each of its 22 seasons, Hohensee began his AFL career as a player, throwing the first touchdown pass in league history on June 19, 1987.

After a neck injury cut his playing career short, Hohensee moved into coaching where he has compiled the third-most wins in league history (119). In 14 seasons as a head coach, his teams have won six division titles and qualified for the playoffs 11 times, including each of the last eight seasons.
