Herrera Earns Five Assists in 8-0 Charlotte Win Over Real Maryland

(Charlotte, NC) - The Charlotte Eagles hosted the Real Maryland Monarchs tonight at Restart Field. Jorge Herrera assisted on five goals while Swinehart, Kabwe and Ssejjemba scored two goals each in the 8-0 shutout of the Monarchs. The Eagles win strengthened their position at that top of the USL-2 standings for a record of 11-1-4 for 37 points.

Jorge Herrera was the spark in the Eagles engines during the first half of the match. Herrera set up Dustin Swinehart for both first half Charlotte goals. The Eagles first goal came in the 10th minute of play. Jorge Herrera attacked down the right side line and pushed through to the endline before sending a ball into the middle. Swinehart ran onto the cross from Herrera and beat Real Maryland goalkeeper Emilio Zelaya with a shot just inside the left post.

In the 24th minute Herrera nearly scored one himself off a cross from Swinehart. Herrera took a volley shot and sent the ball blistering off the crossbar.

Herrera and Swinehart combined on their second goal in the final minute of the half. Herrera in the midfield lifted a ball up over the defense and bending into the line of attack of Dustin Swinehart. Swinehart controlled with his chest and broke away toward goal. He fired off a shot to beat Zelaya on the left side of goal. The teams went to halftime with the Eagles up 2-0.

The flood gates opened for Charlotte in the second half, and Herrera continued to be a huge part of the Charlotte offensive throughout the half. The Eagles extended their lead to three in the opening minute with an unassisted goal by Josephy Kabwe. Kabwe collected the ball and rifled off a shot. His shot deflected off a Monarchs defender and continued into the net.

Six minutes later Joseph Kabwe assisted Robert Ssejjemba to put the Eagles up 4-0. Kabwe attacked on the left side and slotted a pass through for the finish by Ssejjemba who was loosely covered.

Joseph Kabwe scored his second goal of the match in the 55th minute. Jorge Herrera manuvered down the end line from the right side and served up a perfect ball for Kabwe who knocked it home to beat Zelaya in goal. It was Herrera's third assist on the night.

Robert Ssejjemba scored his second goal of the night in the 60th minute. Taurai Daka played the ball in for Robert Ssejjemba on the left side. Ssejjemba ran onto the ball and blasted inside the near post from 15 yards out. Ssejjemba's goal extended the Charlotte lead to 6-0.

Taurai Daka added a goal of his own in the the 78th minute. Real Maryland got caught off guard when the referee signaled to play on when the Monarchs were looking for a whistle. Daka and Herrera continued on toward goal with only the goalkeeper to beat. Herrera passed to Daka for the easy finish.

Charlotte got its final goal of the game in the 82nd minute. Jorge Herrera earned his fifth assist of the game, combining with Gustavo Bentos to wrap up the match 8-0.

The Charlotte Eagles return to home field action next Saturday night hosting Crystal Palace Baltimore at Restart Field. Fans can save $2.00 per ticket by purchasing them online by midnight Friday, July 25th.
