June 7, 2013 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Valley Blue Sox News Release

HOLYOKE, Mass. - Brendan Hendriks might have been slated to start in the ninth hole in the lineup on Thursday night but definitely might have earned his way up the lineup after a 4-1 season-opening victory for the Blue Sox against the Sanford Mainers.

Hendriks finished the game going 2-for-3 at the dish with a pair of doubles including one in the fourth inning that scored Joel Fisher and Jason Lombardozzi, capping offa four-run frame for the Blue Sox.

That's all Holyoke would need as they rolled to a 4-1 victory against the Mainers improving to 1-0 in 2013.

Jordan Hillyer (1-0) got the start for the Blue Sox and pitched six solid innings allowing only one run on six hits while striking out five and just walking two.

Hillyer's performance was followed up by solid outings out of the pen by Freddy Andujar and Kendall Hawkins, who combined to throw three innings of scoreless baseball with Hawkins inking the save.

Eric Ashworth (0-1) took the loss for the Mainers allowing four runs over six innings of work while striking out four and walking one.

The Blue Sox now return home to open the home portion of their 2013 NECBL schedule as they face the Ocean State Waves.

Ocean State is coming off a 14-1 victory against Keene on Thursday night and this will mark the first meeting between the two teams this season.

First 500 fans out to Mackenzie Stadium on Friday night will get a free full color Blue Sox tattoo and a free magnet schedule.

First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. with the gates opening at 5:35 p.m. at Mackenzie Stadium.
