Pennsylvania Rebellion News Release
Washington, Pa -- The Pennsylvania Rebellion Professional Fastpitch Softball Team announced today that Heather Bresch, chief executive officer of Mylan Inc., is this year's recipient of the Joan Joyce Achievement Award.
Ms. Bresch has been with Mylan for more than 20 years serving the company in numerous capacities, including as president, chief operating officer and chief integration officer. She is currently chief executive officer and a member of Mylan's Board of Directors. As CEO, she is responsible for a workforce of more than 20,000, a manufacturing footprint comprising more than 35 facilities and producing more than 50 billion doses of medicine annually, and a portfolio of more than 1,300 products sold in more than 140 countries and territories.
Over the course of her career at the company, Bresch has been a champion of initiatives and policy changes aimed at removing barriers that hinder access to high quality medicine. To this end, she has testified before the United States House of Representatives and Senate, and served as the chairperson of the Generic Pharmaceutical Association. In recognition of her efforts to ensure one quality standard for all drugs sold in the U.S., Ms. Bresch was named one of Fortune's "50 Most Powerful Women in Business" and "Patriot of the Year" by Esquire Magazine. In addition, she has been recognized within the industry, being named one of Pharmaceutical Executive's "Emerging Pharma Leaders" and one of the top women in the global pharmaceutical industry by FiercePharma.
"Heather Bresch serves as a role model, not only for women, but for executives seeking to make a difference through their leadership," said Christine Blaine, Chairperson of the Joan Joyce Achievement Award Committee. "It is gratifying to see a powerful, talented woman like Heather help build and then lead a global business, while at the same time working tirelessly to tackle important industry issues and improve the lives of others. Heather's success is important for women in business, in the sporting industry, and quite frankly in all walks of life! We are delighted to recognize Heather for her accomplishments."
The award Ms. Bresch will receive is named in honor of Joan Joyce, a legendary figure in the international softball community. A member of The Softball Hall of Fame, Joan holds a career pitching record of 753 wins and 42 losses. Included in her totals are 150 no-hit, scoreless games and 50 perfect games. At the plate she posted a career batting average of .324. Joyce's accomplishments transcend softball. She competed and holds honors on the Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour and the United States Volleyball Association. She set a national tournament record when she scored 67 points in a single game for the USA Women's National Basketball Team. Joan currently serves as the head softball coach and head golf coach for Florida Atlantic University. Under Joyce's leadership, the softball program enjoyed eight consecutive and nine total Atlantic Sun Conference Championships as well as six straight and seven total NCAA Tournament appearances.
The Rebellion will honor Ms. Bresch at a private dinner June 4th, the day before the team hosts the 2013 professional softball champion USSSA Pride in their inaugural home opener at CONSOL Energy Park on Thursday, June 5. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. For more information log on to www.rebellionprosoftball.com or call the CONSOL Energy Park box office at 724.250.9555.
