From the Atlantic Coast Hockey League News Desk....
*Jacksonville Barracudas reached a two-year lease agreement with SMG for the new Jacksonville Arena which is slated to open this coming fall (2003).
*Winston-Salem Parrots named Darryl Noren as Head Coach. Noren replaced the departed Bruce Ramsay and won his first game on February 7th against Jacksonville.
*Macon Trax won three out of four games last week to get right back into the playoff hunt. The Trax begin the week tied for fourth place with Winston-Salem. Each team has 36 points in the league standings. Third place Cape Fear Fire Antz are only a point ahead of the Trax & Parrots with 37 points. The Trax also saw their largest crowd of the year at the Macon Centreplex as 2881 attended "Military Night" on February 8th.
*Knoxville Ice Bears continue to lead all of minor professional hockey in increase of average attendance. The Ice Bears have shown an increase of 44.91% in average attendance over last season in Knoxville (source: In The Crease.com). This past Saturday (8th), the Ice Bears drew their ninth crowd of 4000+ as a standing room only crowd of 4706 saw the Ice Bears defeat Cape Fear 7-1.
*Orlando Seals saw their eight game winning streak come to an end on Sunday (9th), losing 6-5 at Macon. The Seals remain in first place in the ACHL with 64 points. Orlando has a 16 point lead over second place Knoxville

League Game #148: Macon @ Cape Fear: 7:35PM
Also Note: League Game #150: Macon @ Knoxville, originally scheduled for Tuesday, 2/18 , has been moved to February 27th because of a building conflict at the Knoxville Civic Center.
Savannah Games:
The Atlantic Coast Hockey League officially announced on January 23rd, that it will stage two regular season games at the Savannah Civic Center in Savannah, Georgia. The two league games are considered "test" games by the ACHL to guage the interest in placing an ACHL franchise in Savannah in time for the 2003-2004 ACHL season. The two games are:
Friday, February 21st @ 7:30PM: Macon Trax vs. Winston-Salem Parrots
and
Saturday, February 22nd @ 7:30PM: Cape Fear Fire Antz vs. Winston-Salem

ACHL Player of the Week:
Defenseman Rick Emmett of the Macon Trax is the Atlantic Coast Hockey League Player of the Week. The native of Etobicoke, Ontario, had a big week for the Trax with two goals on Friday (2/7), a goal and assist on Saturday (2/8), and three assists on Sunday (2/9). He also had an assist in Tuesday's win. In four games, Emmett tallied three goals and five assists in four games.
ACHL Goaltender of the Week:
The Knoxville Ice Bears Fred Beaubien is the Atlantic Coast Hockey League Goaltender of the Week. Beaubien, from Lauzon, Quebec, helped the Ice Bears to a perfect 3-0 week, stopping 70 of 76 shots on the week. For the year, he improved his record to 20-8-1 with a 2.86 goals against average and a 90.6% save percentage.
