Harrisburg, PA - Harrisburg City Islanders Head Coach Bill Becher was inducted into the St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame Class of 2017 on Thursday, October 19, during a celebration held at the America's Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

A St. Louis native, Becher began his soccer career in the Gateway City, which has played an integral role in the development of soccer in the United States over the years.

"It is a great honor to be recognized by the city of St. Louis," stated Becher. "Not only is it a great city with a rich soccer history dating back to the early 1900s, but St. Louis produces top level players and coaches. Growing up, it was extremely competitive, so to be recognized for my accomplishments in this city, my home city, is exciting."

Bill Becher has served as the head coach for the Harrisburg City Islanders organization since their inception in 2004. His accolades with the team include a 2005 USL-2 Coach of the Year Award, 2007 USL-2 Championship Title, and a 2011 National Division Title.

In his time with the Islanders, Becher has moved players to the next level of professional soccer, Major League Soccer, such as Bilal Duckett, Sheanon Williams, and Yann Ekra, along with many more. Over the years, his successful coaching methods have earned him the respect of his fellow coaches and players alike.

"It is a great honor to be inducted into the Hall of Fame and Coach Becher is a great addition," expressed Jake Bond, a player on Becher's 2017 Islanders team. "He was a fantastic player and has a very successful coaching career. He inspires many young players and reinvigorates professional ones. It has been a pleasure playing for him. As a St. Louisan, I couldn't think of a more deserving person for this high honor."

Becher also enjoyed a lengthy and fruitful playing career with the Harrisburg Heat, Hershey Impact, Ft. Wayne Flames, New York Kick, St. Louis Ambush, Arizona Sandsharks, and the Colorado Foxes.
