Cincinnati Riverhawks News Release

The Cincinnati Riverhawks remain perfect against an Indiana team that needs help. The Riverhawks are now 3-0-0 against Indiana.

Both teams came out playing a game of soccer that looked as if a bunch of guys got together to play a pickup game at your local schoolyard. Each team looked liked they were ill prepared to play. Cincinnati still managed to get the most chances at goal with excellent play by Juan Sastoque. He had a couple of shots at goal one really testing the keeper forcing a fingertip save in the 9th minute. The Hawks touched the back of the net with a goal by Chris Dore the 56th minute off of a direct kick from 22 yards out. The Blast had the perfect opportunity for a goal with Jamar Beaseley on a breakaway. However Beaseley missed the goal by a mile in what should have been a sure goal. The shot was taken from about 10 yds out. Again Ranieri substituted in Byron Carmichael late in the contest and again Byron came through scoring an 84th minute goal putting the Hawks up 2-0. The Hawks looking strong at this point let the foot off the gas after Byron's goal and allowed the Blast's Dresser in the 89th minute. This was however too late to start a comeback.

This contest showed that both teams have some problems to deal with. Indiana has problems with motivation and team discipline. A couple of the Blast's players were witnessed eating candy bars just before the match. Any 'well-trained' athlete knows that this is taboo. That sugar high really leads to a letdown after the high.

With the Hawks, they seemed well prepared for the game but with players reportedly having problems being paid again it has to be on their minds. One player noticeably absent was Bobby Meyer. He is a player that is needed for the defense. With the play of a couple of Hawks players being of a decent caliber it will not be long until some other team snatches them up. Reported attendance of the game was at 287 but my guess would be about 100 at most. Of those, it is a guess as to how many of them paid to attend.
