Hawks fly past Spiders

San Jose Spiders News Release
SAN JOSE CA, February 20, 2005- The SAN JOSE SPIDERS were out run by the LUBBOCK HAWKS in a Sunday afternoon game at De Anza. The typically stout SPIDER defense was torched by a relentless HAWK running attack that used two sustained bursts to close out the home team, 63-52.
Just a day before the NWBL All Star festivities take place in Colorado, the SPIDERS looked like they were already on vacation. The HAWKS forced San Jose into 21 turnovers and controlled the offensive glass all night.
The Hawks came out quickly and built a 15 point lead early in the first half. The SPIDERS were able to rally around a series of physical plays that put the HAWKS back on their heels and at the half the score was a respectable 37-26 in favor of the visiting team.
But the HAWKS duplicated their early first half performance in the opening minutes of the second half to quell any hopes of a SPIDER comeback. Some hot shooting to close out the game gave the crowd something to cheer about, but it wasn't enough to make up the hole the team dug for itself.
Natalie Nakase continued her hot shooting from the night before and led the SPIDERS with 13 points. The HAWKS were led by their trio of guards. Jocelyn Penn, Molly Creamer and Shereka Wright all scored in double figures with 11, 13, and 15 points respectively.
The SPIDERS will have a week off before returning to face a fully loaded COLORADO CHILL team next Saturday, February 26th at 7:00 pm.
