HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Huntsville Havoc captured the SPHL's President's Cup with a 3-2 victory over the Mississippi Surge at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama on Saturday night.
Huntsville got on the board first, opening the scoring on a five-on-three power play at the 7:56 mark of the first period when Vladimir Hartinger's shot through traffic snuck by Mississippi goalie Bill Zaniboni.
Andrew Schembri added to Huntsville's lead at 14:19 of the second, taking a pass from Justin Rohr and ripping a shot past Zaniboni's outstretched glove.
Mike MacDonald picked off a breakout pass and scored his fifth goal of the playoffs to give the Havoc a 3-0 lead at 11:37 of the third.
The Surge battled back, getting a goal from Nick Klaren at 15:43. Tim Velemirovich knocked home a loose puck to cut the Huntsville lead to one at 16:18 of the third period.
Bill Zaniboni made 39 saves, and the Surge were 0-for-5 on the power play.
