Hartford Athletic News Release

Hartford Athletic have signed forward Kyle Edwards ahead of the 2023 season, pending league and federation approval. Edwards is Hartford's second new signing of the offseason.

"I'd like to thank God, Coach Ramos, and the rest of the organization for granting me this opportunity," said Edwards. "Hartford Athletic is a great fit for me, given my familiarity with Coach Ramos and his style of play. I'm fired up to start the 2023 season in Hartford and give everything I have for the fans."

Edwards comes to Hartford Athletic after spending the 2022 season with Houston Dynamo 2 of MLS Next Pro. He signed with the Dynamo on June 11th and put together a quality season in just five months. The striker scored five goals across 12 appearances, and recorded two assists while helping Houston to a third place finish and a playoff berth in the MLS Next Pro Western Conference.

"Kyle is a great addition to our already talented roster of forwards," said Head Coach Tab Ramos. "I know what a special talent he is from watching him while we were both in Houston. He has the ability to get in behind defenses and can play as a holding forward as well. He's an incredibly talented striker and I'm excited to see how he changes games for us."

Edwards was drafted as the 86th overall pick by the Dynamo in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft. After getting drafted, he spent two seasons in the USL Championship with Rio Grande Valley FC, where he recorded six goals and three assists in 23 appearances with the club. In Week 28 of the 2021 regular season, Edwards earned Team of the Week honors after recording a pair of goals in the Toros' 4-1 victory against El Paso Locomotive FC that clinched the club's first postseason berth since its inaugural season in 2016.

"Kyle Edwards has proven that he can be a quality contributor at this level," said Technical Director Ray Reid. "Kyle is a hard working player and has consistently demonstrated his ability to make an impact on a match. We're excited to bring in another player with a great ability to score and create chances."

Prior to joining RGV FC, Edwards played for USL League Two's Brazos Valley Cavalry, where he jointly won the 2019 Golden Boot award with 15 goals. Edwards also brings international experience to the club with 15 senior caps for the Saint Vincent and Grenadines National Team. A graduate of the University of Texas - Rio Grande Valley, Edwards finished his collegiate career ranked second in school history in career goals with 21 and career points with 49.

Edwards joins Conor McGlynn, Prince Saydee, Danny Barrera, Robin Lapert, Antoine Hoppenot, and Jeciel Cedeño on the 2023 roster. More information on returning players and new player signings will be announced over the coming weeks.
