Harrisburg Travels to Face Undefeated Steelhawks

HARRISBURG, PA (May 1, 2014) - The Harrisburg Stampede (2-2) make the short drive to Bethlehem, PA this Saturday to face the Lehigh Valley Steel Hawks (4-0) this Saturday at Stabler Arena.

The Stampede team is coming off a weekend that saw their game in Alabama get postponed due to bad weather. This week, the Herd looks to continue their climb back into the National Division race with a win, as they get into the meat of their division schedule. With National Division opponents accounting for 6 of their next 7 games, this game begins a critical stretch for the Stampede as the playoff picture begins to form.

The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks are coming off a 42-36 win over the National Division opponent Trenton Freedom in another gritty battle. The Steelhawks special teams was led by K Mike Barnard in a dominant effort, accounting for 16 total points.

This is the second of three matchups between the stampede and Steelhawks this season. The first contest was a clash of two very evenly matched teams, with the game coming down to the final possession. In a game like this, special teams often plays a crucial role.

Matchup to Watch

Harrisburg Stampede K Cap Poklemba leads the PIFL in points scored from the kickers (31). His scoring accounts for almost 8 points per game, and his timely UNO conversions have given opposing teams fits this season.

Lehigh Valley Steelhawks K Mike Barnard is coming off a week where he was honored as the Vidswap Special Teams Player of the Week after scoring a league-high 16 points. He converted on 3 UNOs, and was perfect on FG and PAT attempts (3-3 and 3-3 respectively).

In a game between to evenly matched opponents, this type of production from special teams may in fact decide the winner.
