Mississippi Miracles News Release

General Manager/Head Coach finished his coaching debut with a perfect 4-0 record. Filling in for Head Coach Yama Jones, Coach Gordon had to squeak out his fourth victory. The Hardhats prevailed over the North Mississippi Tornados 116-114 in overtime.

Leading throughout the game, the Hardhats once again made it interesting by not closing out an 11 point 4th period lead. The Tornados using a press to speed up the tempo rallied to take a brief lead over the Hardhats with 3 minutes to go. The Tornados had a chance to win with .06 remaining in the game after a very questionable foul was called sending Latrell Williams to the line for two free throws. The first clanked off the rim, but Williams calmly steeped up and sank the second shot. The game seemingly was headed for overtime, but the Hardhats drew up a last second shot that just fell short by Torris Bright.

After scoring the first basket in overtime the Tornados struggled to build from there momentum and allowed the Hardhats to jump out to a 5 point overtime lead. The HArdhats were forced once again to hold off the Tornados with a frantic last second shot trailing by 2. Chris Bacon blocked what looked to a wide open shot with 2 seconds remaining and outstanding hustle by Detrick White saved the ball from going out of bounds. Thus eliminating another possesion and potentially game tying shot by the Tornados.

The HArdhats were lead by Chris Bacon with 23 points and Horation Webster with 22. LEading scorers for the Tornados were M. Hicks and A. Lewis with 16 apiece.
