Hannon, Thompson Take Home Week Four NECBL Awards

SOUTH HADLEY, MA - Kyle Hannon (North Adams, IF/OF, Penn State) and JD Thompson (Newport, LHP, Vanderbilt) have won Player and Pitcher for the Week, respectively, for Week 4 of the 2023 New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) regular season.
Hannon had quite the week for the SteepleCats, continuing to be the focal point for their offense this season. Over the past seven days, the Penn State product has hit .467, with seven hits in fifteen at-bats, including two home runs and five RBI, while also drawing five walks. Hannon started the week with a 3-5 night against the Martha's Vineyard Sharks, smacking a home run and driving in three in the SteepleCats' 12-8 win. He followed that up with another multi-hit effort in a win against the Upper Valley Nighthawks, also drawing two walks and scoring two runs. In game one of the doubleheader against Danbury on July 1st, Hannon went 2-3 with a home run and two RBI.
Hannon had a phenomenal junior season at Penn State, hitting .293 in 49 games, with 53 hits, seven home runs, and 25 RBIs. He tied the Penn State record with 27 steals, averaging .55 steals per game.
Thompson was a force for the Gulls this week, pitching eight innings, striking out seventeen while only allowing four hits. The Vanderbilt product started out the week with two innings of shutout ball, striking out five of eight batters faced, in a winning effort against Vermont on June 26th. He started for the Gulls on July 2nd against the Navigators, pitching six innings of one-run ball, allowing three hits and striking out twelve batters in another winning effort.
During his freshman season at Vanderbilt, he appeared in thirteen games, starting one, going 2-0 with a 5.73 ERA.
