February 3, 2006 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
Hammond Heroes News Release

The newly expanded Hammond Heroes of the National Indoor Football League will take the initial big step towards making an impact in the league when the first open tryout for players and cheerleaders takes place this Saturday, February 4 th. According to Hammond Owner Tommy Smith, "all positions on our team are open. We're looking to fill our roster with players who can make an immediate contribution to this football team. My coaches have been contacted by players in the Hammond area, and o ther parts of sou thern Louisiana, including New Orleans. The competition will be stiff, but we're looking to find those athletes ready for the challenge."

Players are advised to wear loose fitting, non-contact football clothing with standard football cleats. No metal cleats will be allowed, as the field at Southeastern University's Strawberry Stadium is covered with Astroturf. Players will be judged in the 40 yard dash, the 10 yard pro-shuttle, the standard broad jump and the four corner box drill. A 20 yard dash will be set up for competing linemen.

By mid-morning, individual group drills will be assigned by position, giving coaches their first look at player's ability to compete against one ano ther in simulated football situations. "That's when our coaches will focus in on who has the ability to play in this league. The individual standard tests are important, but the one-on-one football drills will go a long way towards determining who ends up on the Hammond Hero's roster in 2006."

The registration fee is $50 per player, payable on a cash only basis. Registration begins at Sou theastern University's Strawberry Stadium at 8am, with tryouts on tap for 9am.

And Cheerleading tryouts will be offered for young women 18 years of age or older. Standard cheerleader attire is recommended for the tryout, with dancing technique ability and an attractive appearance the main requirements for making the 2006 Hammond Heroes Cheerleading Squad.
