Hammerheads Travel to Richmond

Wilmington, NC - The Wilmington Hammerheads will be on the road to Richmond, Virginia to take on the Richmond Kickers this weekend on Saturday, May 26 at City Stadium. This will be the first of three encounters the Hammerheads will have with the Kickers this season.
After suffering a heartbreaking 4-0 loss in the second round of the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, May 22 against Cal FC, the Hammerheads are looking to bounce back with a win on the road. The Hammerheads had trouble finding the back of the net in Tuesday night's match while Cal FC found it to be the exact opposite. It was the Hammerheads' first loss of the year on their home field in Legion Stadium.
"It was tough to watch our players fall on the scoreboard and I'm sure the players and our fans can attest for that," said Hammerheads Head Coach David Irving. "Regardless of what did and did not happen, the results are final and there is no going back. The only thing left to do is move forward and rack up continuous wins during our regular season."
This will be the first time the Hammerheads and the Kickers have faced one another since the USL PRO Semifinals in August of 2011. The Kickers defeated the Hammerheads after a scoreless match and overtime, leading them into penalty kicks as well as a 5-4 win to advance to the Finals.
The Hammerheads and the Kickers will face off at Legion Stadium on June 15th and again on July 7th. The result of the upcoming match this Saturday will commence the pace of the games on these two future dates.
