
Hammerheads Take Bite out of Mets, 12-4

JUPITER, Fla. - The Jupiter Hammerheads scored a dozen runs in the first three innings and cruised to a 12-4 win over the St. Lucie Mets on Sunday at Roger Dean Stadium.
All 12 runs came at the expense of starter Scarlyn Reyes, who lasted just three innings. He surrendered 11 earned runs and 11 hits. Reyes had not allowed a run in his previous 12 innings.
Domingo Tapia (two) and Robby Coles (three) combined to eat innings and hold the Hammerheads off the board in the final five frames.
The Mets offense produced 12 hits, including a two-run homer from Champ Stuart in the ninth. It was his fifth homer of the season, tying Kevin Taylor for the team lead.
Nine of the 10 hitters the Mets sent to the plate ended up with a hit. Stuart was 2 for 5 while Kevin Taylor and Luis Guillorme went 2 for 4.
Jupiter's John Norwood was 3 for 3 with three RBI and two runs in the first three innings. Junior Sosa had the other three-hit game for the Hammerheads.
Jupiter scored four in the first inning, one in the second and seven in the third. In the third the Hammerhead sent 11 to the plate and recorded six hits. Reyes also walked and hit a batter in the inning.
The Mets have lost four of five since their five-game winning streak ended on Wednesday.
Next Up: The Mets (36-35, 1-3) and Hammerheads (33-39, 2-2) conclude their two-game series at Roger Dean Stadium on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
