Wilmington Hammerheads FC News Release

Wilmington, NC- The Hammerheads travel north this weekend for their last regular season meeting with FC New York and the Harrisburg City Islanders. Friday night FC New York plays host to the Hammerheads at Belson Stadium, and then the Hammerheads travel to take on the City Islanders at Skyline Sports Complex the following Saturday night.

Currently the Hammerheads (10-6-3) lead both Harrisburg (8-5-6) and FC New York (4-9-6) in points and wins. This weekend will mark the Hammerheads' first 2011 visit to both team's home field.

Early in the season, the Hammerheads hosted FC New York at Legion Stadium and defeated the Queens 3-1. After their most recent loss to Harrisburg, the Queens have fallen to fifth place in the National Division, sitting above the Dayton Dutch Lions with 18 points.

The Hammerheads played host to Harrisburg just two weekends ago on July 16, also defeating them 3-1. The Hammerheads suffered an own goal early in the first half against the City Islanders, giving them the initial lead, but rallied in the second half to score three goals and take the win.

Both the Hammerheads and Harrisburg hold second place positions in their divisions, but the Hammerheads are three points ahead of Harrisburg. The Hammerheads are sharing the second place spot in the American Division with the Richmond Kickers who also have 33 points.

As the end of the season draws near, this weekend's games are very important for the Hammerheads, especially with playoff positions on the line. Hammerhead head coach David Irving understands the importance of capturing both wins this weekend. "We are working very hard to rise above Richmond and secure the second place position in our division. We can't control how other games will result this weekend, so we must focus on what we can do for ourselves, and that will start with us getting a win at FC New York."

After this weekend, the Hammerheads return home next Friday night to host the LA Blues in the USL PRO Fox Soccer Game of the Week that will be Nationally Televised from Legion Stadium.
