Hammerheads Defeat Swashbucklers in Corpus Christi

LAKE CHARLES LA. ‚¬" In a late season loss on the road the Louisiana Swashbucklers were defeated by the Corpus Christi Hammerheads 62-51 last Sunday. This drops Louisiana to 9-3 on the season while Corpus Christi goes to 6-5 and is in the Southern Indoor Football League playoffs. The Hammerheads avenge a loss to the Purple-And-Black gang from a week earlier in Lake Charles.

It was not a good evening for Bucs quarterback Ben McLaughlin. He was intercepted six times, of which three of those picks came from Hammerheads defensive back Reuben Flowers. One of his interceptions stopped a Louisiana scoring threat. Though the Swashbucklers scored first, on a fumble reception by linebacker Chris Hudler into the end zone, Corpus Christi retaliated almost two minutes later when quarterback Anthony Andre found wide receiver Nathaniel Dunn for a 31 yard touchdown strike. Dunn wound up catching three scoring passes in the game. Offensive productivity was limited in the first half as the score at intermission was 21-6 with the Hammerheads in the lead.

Though the Bucs were held scoreless for 30 minutes in the contest the offense managed to rally back and score more points but could not completely outplay Corpus Christi ‚¬â„¢s defense. The Hammerheads will conclude the regular season Saturday night at home when they host the Abilene Ruff Riders.

The Swashbucklers are also in the SIFL playoffs and winners of the Gulf Coast Division title. The Bucs will also conclude the 2011 regular season at home on Saturday, June 11th, against the Houston Stallions. Houston will be coming into the Smuggler ‚¬â„¢s Den with an undefeated record at 11-0 and also won the SIFL Southwest Division.

Also on Saturday will be the Macy ‚¬â„¢s Make-A-Wish Foundation fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Robert Noland Field of Champions in the Lake Charles Civic Center. Please come early to help support this worthy cause.
