Wilmington Hammerheads FC News Release

Wilmington, NC - After a 0-0 draw with the Rochester Rhinos Thursday night at Legion Stadium, the Wilmington Hammerheads travel to Charleston over the weekend to meet with the Battery for the first of three scheduled encounters this season. The match is set for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 14 at Blackbaud Stadium.

After their match with the Rhinos, the Hammerheads still remain unbeaten at Legion Stadium this season with the results of a tie. Scoring opportunities by forwards Corey Hertzog and Cody Arnoux were made just shy of the goal posts and midfielder Mark Briggs sent a shot above the crossbar to keep the intensity high on the field.

The Hammerheads are looking to make up for their scoreless match versus the Rhinos with a win in Charleston and three points to extend a greater cushion in their current fourth place position. The Battery is at present one position above the Hammerheads in the USL PRO standings; a win will place the Hammerheads trailing one point behind the Battery as the run for the playoffs is winding closer.

The Hammerheads and Battery are scheduled to meet two more times this season following this weekend's match. The remaining two matches are back-to-back Friday and Saturday games the first weekend in August, one being at Blackbaud Stadium and the following being at Legion Stadium.

Upcoming Game

The Wilmington Hammerheads will host the Dayton Dutch Lions at Legion Stadium on Friday, July 20 at 7:30 p.m. for "Pink Night." The Hammerheads' commemorative pink jerseys worn by the players will be auctioned off to the highest bidder prior to halftime. "Pink Night" is dedicated to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation's Pink Ribbon Project that provides funding for local women to receive breast cancer screenings.
