Hammer beat Drillers
The Eastern Kentucky Drillers scored on their first two offensive plays on fingertip catches by last weeks UIFL Offensive Player of the Week, Aric Evans. Then the Hammer defense settled in and did what Huntington's X-Factor is growing accustomed too. They held the Driller's offense to just two more scores the entire evening.
With key grabs by Dray Mason and Hiram Moore plus his own nifty footwork, Huntington's Rookie quarterback, Martevious Young showed why Head Coach Josh Resignalo has such faith that the Hammer offense is coming into it's own. Young ended the night with two passing and two rushing touchdows.
The difference in the game proved to be three passes that ricocheted of Huntington recievers, two which resulted in Driller TD's and the other costing the Hammer a score of their own.
For the second game in a row, the Huntington Hammer held opponents under 40 points and have those around the league realizing what the X-Factor already knows. Hammer fans stand behind the stingiest defense in the UIFL. As unbelievable as the 40 point total is in Indoor Football, even more impressive is that high-water mark drops to just 24 points that they are allowing to the offense.
X-Factor Fans not making the trip to Pikeville to watch the game who listened to the game on the internet suffered through an inconsistant connection and a first half that was filled with anti-Hammer drivel. The most patient that were still listening at the end of the game know that the word is out. The UIFL is ready to call the Hammer contenders even if some announcers would never admit it on the air.
The Huntington Hammer travels next to Saginaw, Michigan to face the Sting on Sunday, March 13th. The week off next week will be welcome in the Hammer camp to give a few bumps and bruises a chance to heal and to continue to work with bringing the offense together. The Hammer returns to the Big Sandy Superstore Arena on Friday, March 18th to once again face the Eastern Kentucky Drillers on Boy Scout Appreciation Night. Mark the date, do your homework, and be ready to pack "Our House" with the X-Factor and show the team from Pikeville that we don't need recorded noise to Rattle the Roof!
