SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Blaze announced the name of the mascot, Chief, at the Utah Jazz game on December 31.
The Blaze received 750 entries during the contest. A total of 50 entries were submitted with the name "Chief". The winner, which will be announced shortly, will receive an autographed football, jersey and tickets to the Blaze home opener on Saturday, February 4 against the Dallas Desperados.
"Chief" is a strapping Dalmatian with speckled black spots and bulging muscles from under his new Utah Blaze jersey. The black jersey displays the team's flame logo in a colorful array of orange, black and silver. His blazing black boots have orange flames shooting out from the front with the shape of the flame running along the edge of the boots.
