Published on August 13, 2003 under arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

CHICAGO - Tennessee Valley Vipers head coach KEVIN GUY has been named the arenafootball2 Coach of the Year by his fellow af2 head coaches and members of the media.

Guy led the fourth-year Vipers to 14-0 start to the regular season and finished with a 14-2 mark to win the American Conference South Division title and earn the conference's top seed for the postseason. Guy's crew went a perfect 8-0 at home and fielded a 7-1 record within the South Division. Under his guidance, the Vipers boasted the third-ranked scoring offense by averaging 52.8 points per game and they finished the season ranked seventh among all defenses, allowing 41.8 points per contest.

In just his second season as head coach, Guy has amassed 27 wins against only five losses in the regular season with a 1-1 record in the postseason through the semifinal round of the 2003 ArenaCup playoffs. During his tenure, the Vipers have posted a 13-3 mark on the road, which is tops in the af2 during that stint.

Guy joined the Vipers after serving as the defensive coordinator for the Florida Bobcats of the AFL during the 2001 season. In that campaign, the Bobcats held opponents to an average of six stops per game. Prior to his role with Florida, Guy worked as the defensive coordinator for the New Jersey Red Dogs. His professional career began in 1996 as a member of the AFL' s Minnesota Fighting Pike, and he led the team in tackles as a rookie with 56 including 49 unassisted stops. Guys playing days ended in Orlando in 1999, where he played six games as the Predators advanced to the ArenaBowl.

Guy leads his Vipers in the American Conference Championship game this Thursday against the Macon Knights. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. ET. Log on to www.af2.com for the latest 2003 ArenaCup information.
