July 23, 2011 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Tampa Bay Storm News Release
TAMPA -- Rookie Matt Grothe, in only his second game, passed 22 yards to Hank Edwards for a go-ahead touchdown with 8 seconds left but defensive back Erick McIntosh put the icing on the cake with a 46-yard reception return as Tampa Bay scored a thrilling, 57-44, win over the San Jose SaberCats on the Amalie Motor Oil Field in the St. Pete Times Forum Saturday to close out the Arena Football League season.
Grothe, the former University of South Florida star, was 17 of 34 for 279 yards and five touchdowns. He also ran for another TD of 3 yards as the Storm (7-11) finished the year and for the first time in a long time will not make the AFL playoffs.
Grothe connected with Amarri Jackson 6 times for 116 yards and four scores and with Edwards 8 times for 112 yards and that all-important go ahead score.
Veteran QB Mark Grieb was 25 of 44 for 315 yards and 5 touchdowns. He connected with veteran James Roe 3 times for TDs.
