FOREST CITY, N.C. - The Gastonia Grizzlies defeated the Forest City Owls, 15-2, in Game 3 of the CPL Semifinals on Wednesday night at McNair Field. Gastonia wins the series, 2-1, and advances to the CPL Finals. The Grizzlies will battle the Edenton Steamers for the honor of hoisting the Petitt Cup. The Owls fall short in their quest for a third consecutive Petitt Cup title and finish their 2011 campaign with a regular season record of 30-25 and a postseason record of 3-2.

Heesch struck out six Forest City hitters and did not give up a walk. Heesch earned the win, Lomascolo took the loss, and Talton Cherry earned the save after working three innings.
The Grizzlies took command of the game from the very beginning, tagging Lomascolo for seven runs in the first inning. Gastonia scored those runs on five hits and one error, sending eleven men to the plate in the first frame. Dylan Nasiatka, Mac Doyle, and Dan Hennigan each came through with RBI singles in the first inning.
The Grizzlies added a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning on two-out RBI doubles by Nasiatka and Justin Vásquez and put up another run in the top of the fifth when Adam Lavelle scored on a fielder's choice. Gastonia exploded for five runs in the top of the sixth inning, when they sent ten men to the plate. Doyle's sacrifice fly to left fied sparked the scoring, and four more runs would cross the plate on RBI singles by Joe RamÃrez, Jordan Lurie, and Tyler White. Hennigan concluded the scoring parade when he raced home on a passed ball. Gastonia enjoyed a 15-0 lead after six innings.
The Owls would score a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Konstantine Diamaduros crossed the plate on a Craig Manuel groundout and Danny Canela's sacrifice fly to center field scored Reed Harper.
Gastonia's Henningan finished 2-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Doyle went 1-for-4 with three RBIs, while White and Nasiatka each went 2-for-5 with a couple of RBIs. Canela was the only Owl to record multiple hits this evening, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI.
