Green Goes Yard in 3rd Straight in 9-2 Win

Zach Green stayed hot at the plate on Friday, connecting for his third home run in as many games to help the Clearwater Threshers tear past the Brevard County Manatees by a 9-2 final at Space Coast Stadium.

Green led the surge by going 3-for-5 with four RBI, including his tenth home run of the season. The 22-year-old has driven in 11 runs over his last three games, and now leads the Florida State League with a career-high 45 RBIs.

Clearwater (2-0) earned the series win after amassing a season-high 18 hits on Friday. The Threshers have put up seven or more runs in each of their last four games, and are 4-0 over that span.

Seven of the nine Clearwater batters put up multi-hit performances, with Scott Kingery, Green, and Malquin Canelo each finishing with three-hit nights.

The Threshers broke out the bats early against Cody Ponce (0-2).

Carlos Tocci and Kingery each singled to open the ballgame, and Mitch Walding followed with a opposite-field single to left to give Clearwater a quick lead. Green then connected on a liner out to right for a three-run shot putting the Threshers up 4-0 in the first.

The Manatees (0-2) cut the lead down the middle in the home half, after Elvis Rubio doubled home a run and Clint Coulter singled in a second off starter Elniery Garcia.

Clearwater continued to tack on the rest of the way.

With two men on in the third, Canelo's infield hit pushed home Kyle Martin to make it 5-2. In the sixth, Cord Sandberg went deep off reliever Zach Hirsch for his second of the season, putting the Threshers ahead by four.

An inning later, Green struck again with a line drive to center that scored Kingery. A wild pitch would later permit Green to cross the plate, and Canelo doubled to right to drive home Chace Numata and lift the Threshers to the 9-2 advantage.

Daniel Stumpf was credited with the win, working a perfect sixth inning in his first appearance on assignment from the Phillies.

Rehabbing reliever Dalier Hinojosa tossed two scoreless, permitting a walk and a hit while tallying five strikeouts.

The Threhsers will go for the sweep on Saturday, as Luke Leftwich makes his Threshers debut against Bubba Derby (5-4) with first pitch at 6:35 p.m. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
