BOSTON, Mass. - Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Monday its weekly award winners for the week ending June 1, 2008, according to MLL Commissioner David Gross. Rochester Rattlers attackman John Grant, Jr. has been named as the League's Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week while Long Island midfielder Peter Vlahakis was selected as the MLL Defensive Player of the Week. Meanwhile, Los Angeles Riptide goalkeeper Mickey Jarboe was named as the Goalkeeper of the Week while Chicago Machine attackman Mike Leveille earned the first Cascade Rookie of the Week award for this season. The MLL leader in goals, two-point goals and total points, Grant scored four goals, including a pair of two-point tallies, and added three assists as the Rattlers improved to 3-0 on the season with a 22-9 victory over the defending MLL champion Philadelphia Barrage on Saturday evening. Grant, who has tallied 18 points in the last two games, has scored 15 goals, including three two-point goals, with four assists in three games. Vlahakis led the Lizards to their first win of the season, a 20-19 overtime victory over the Boston Cannons on Saturday evening. He won 28 of 40 face-offs and recorded 13 ground balls as the Lizards rallied from a one-point deficit late in the fourth quarter. Vlahakis also scored two goals in the victory and has won 61.1 per cent of the face-offs he has taken in the Lizards' three games this year. Jarboe helped the Riptide earn a 17-13 victory over San Francisco on Sunday, spoiling the Dragons' home opener. He made 16 saves, including 10 in the second half, as the Riptide won their second straight game. In three games this season, Jarboe has played all 180 minutes for Los Angeles and has stopped 52.3 per cent of the shots he has faced. Making his Major League Lacrosse debut on Sunday, Leveille scored two goals and added two assists in the Machine's 18-14 loss against the Washington Bayhawks. Selected with the third overall pick in Wednesday's Collegiate Draft and traded to Chicago, he scored his first career goal with 5:30 remaining in the first quarter and also added a goal in the third quarter. In addition, he assisted two of his brother Kevin's five goals in the game.
