Grant Becomes Third in NLL History with 500 Goals

March 3, 2012 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Colorado Mammoth News Release

DENVER - In a season filled with awards and accolades including: two National Lacrosse League Offensive Player of the Week honors, two NLL Player of the Month honors, his 1,000th career point, and a personal- and franchise-best six wins to start a season, Colorado Mammoth forward John Grant Jr.'s latest accomplishment might just be the most impressive. On Saturday night at First Niagara Center in Buffalo, the former MVP became only the third player in league history to score 500 goals.

Grant's fourth goal of the night, 13:23 into the 3rd quarter, was the milestone-maker. Forwards Gavin Prout and Derek Hopcroft recorded assists on the shot from the outside, while rookie Jamie Lincoln set a pick to free Grant.

The 37-year-old, who is the league's all-time leader in career points-per-game, joined current Buffalo Bandits forward John Tavares and retired Mammoth forward Gary Gait in the 500-career-goal club. Grant is now in pursuit of shattering Tavares' single-season points record.

Grant and the Mammoth return home next Saturday, March 10 at 7pm MT against the Washington Stealth. Tickets for all remaining Mammoth regular-season home games are on sale now at the Pepsi Center box office, all Colorado Dick's Sporting Goods retail kiosks, online at TicketHorse.com, or by calling 303.53.HORSE.
