Grand Rapids Gold Fall to Sioux Falls in Back-And-Forth Battle

SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Grand Rapids Gold (1-1) fell to the Sioux Falls Skyforce (1-4) after a tough back-and-forth battle, resulting in 16 lead changes and 4 ties, with a final score of 115-101.

The Skyforce's fluidity on offense and intensity on defense is what led to the home team to victory against the Gold in the final minutes of the fourth. The Skyforce was able to convert throughout the night, shooting 54% from the field and 44% from beyond the three-point line, compared to the Gold's 43% from the field and 35% from beyond the arc.

The Gold's ability to earn a slight edge over the Skyforce on the boards (45-36) and (15-5) offensive rebounds is what kept Grand Rapids holding on until the home team found a renewed burst of energy in the closing minutes of the fourth, pushing the lead to double digits, a first for tonight's competition, after a 20-0 run.

Guard Nik Stauskas was the driving force the Gold, leading the team with 23 points on 5-11 shooting from behind the arc, 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Nuggets two-way player Petr Cornelie followed up with his second double-double of the season with 21 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists. Other Gold players in double digits were Davon Reed (16 pts, 7 assists, and 7 rebs), Trevon Duval (12 pts, 5 rebs and 2 assists) and and Marcus Burk (10pts, 3 rebs and 3 assists).

Javonte Smart was a bright spot for the home team, earning a team-high 36 points to go along with 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. Brandon Knight added 16 points, 6 assists and 2 rebounds to the mix. Other Skyforce players in double digits were DJ Stewart (14 pts and 6 rebs) and Heat two-way player Marcus Garrett (13 pts, 5 assists and 4 rebs)

The Gold will continue their away game stint and head to Des Moines, IA to take on the Wolves on Monday, November 15 before heading to Grand Rapids for their home opener on November 23. Tip-off for the GRG at SXF is at 8:00 PM local time. Watch live on ESPN +
