Grand Rapids Drive 2018-19 Recap
REGULAR SEASON HIGHLIGHTS
The Grand Rapids Drive finished their regular season with a record of 28-22 and earned the first Central Division title in franchise history. Finishing fifth overall in the Eastern Conference, the Drive earned a berth in the playoffs for the second consecutive season under Coach Krueger. Grand Rapids ended the regular season red-hot, winning 15 of their last 19 games, to capture the Central Division title and return to the playoffs.
Grand Rapids was a guard-heavy team this season, led by Detroit Pistons two-way players Kalin Lucas and Isaiah Whitehead, as well as NBA veteran Marcus Thornton who returned for his second season with the Drive. All three averaged at least 18 points per game for the Drive, with Thornton and Lucas each going on streaks of five or more games where they scored 30+ points.
Kalin Lucas and Marcus Thornton each received the league's Player of the Week award, another first in franchise history for the Drive. Lucas finished 2018-19 averaging 21.8 points per game while Thornton averaged 21.5 points per game, ranking 6th and 7th in the NBA G League, respectively.

In the post-season, the Drive traveled to Mississauga, Ontario to take on the 4-seed Raptors 905 in the first round of the 2019 NBA G League Playoffs. Grand Rapids came up one point short in a grueling overtime loss, ending their season on March 26, 2019 with a final score of 91-90.
Thornton led the team with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 6 steals in 39 minutes while Lucas finishing with 20 points, 9 assists and 4 rebounds in 37 minutes. That duo provided a strong collaborative performance as they did all season. Whitehead contributed 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks, Withers had an impressive of 11 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks, and Hamilton finished with a 12 point/11 rebound double-double.
DETROIT PISTONS TWO-WAY PLAYERS
The Detroit Pistons began their 2018-19 season by signing Dwight Buycks and Zach Lofton to two- way contracts assigned to Grand Rapids. On January 12, Buycks and Lofton were both waived with the Drive retaining Lofton on a G League contract. The Pistons signed Kalin Lucas and Isaiah Whitehead to two-way deals on January 15 for the remainder of the 2018-19 season.
The two are currently on the Pistons roster while they make their 2019 NBA Playoff Run.

In 38 games (24 starts) between GRD and STO, Lucas averaged 21.8 points, 5.5 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game. Awards: Player of the Week on Mar 25, All-G League 3rd Team and NBA G League Showcase 2nd Team.
ISAIAH WHITEHEAD: Guard 6'3 210lbs Seton Hall
In 25 games (21 starts), Whitehead averaged 18.4 points, 4 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1 steal per game.
