Laredo Bucks News Release

LAREDO, Texas – Last night it was the Bucks jumping to a big lead and winning, Saturday night the Amarillo Gorillas turned the tables and grabbed a 4-2 win in Game Two to even the best of seven series at one game apiece. Amarillo forward Derek Hahn had a pair of goals and goaltender Shawn Degagne was outstanding as the Gorillas took home ice advantage away from the Bucks. Games Three, Four and Five are set for Amarillo this Thursday, Friday and Saturday. If necessary Game Six would be Tuesday, April 13th at the LEC. After struggling to score last night the Amarillo Gorillas got off to a quick start on Saturday. Defenseman Tyler Butler ripped a slap shot from the left point just 27 seconds into the game for a 1-0 lead then at 3:37 forward Henry Kuster wristed home the puck for a quick 2-0 Amarillo advantage.

In the second period the Gorillas continued to press the attack. Forward Derek Hahn scored on a wrist shot at 4:55 to push the Gorillas margin to 3-0. Bucks goalie David Guerrera was pulled after allowing three goals on eight shots and was replaced by Marco Emond. Hahn scored again this time on a two-on-none rush during a power play at 9:44 to make it 4-0 Amarillo. The Bucks thought they had gotten on the scoreboard when defenseman Steve Weidlich appeared to score on a shorthanded chance, but after a conference between the referee and the goal judge the goal was waived off. Late in the period the Bucks finally cracked thru. Defenseman J.F. David backhanded a shot from the slot that was stopped by Degagne, but forward Steve Simoes slammed home the rebound with just 27.8 seconds left in the period to get the Bucks on the scoreboard trailing 4-1 going to the second period intermission.

The Bucks were unable to capitalize on a power play chance at the start of the third period as the Gorillas successfully killed it off. A little over halfway thru the third period the Bucks were finally able to crack thru as forward James Hiebert hopped on a rebound and fired it into the net at 12:54 to bring Laredo to within 4-2, but that was as close as the Bucks would get. Degagne stopped 11 of 12 shots in the third period to seal the win. FINAL SCORE Amarillo 4, Laredo 2.

Degagne stopped 36 of 38 shots overall to improve to 4-3. Guerrera got the loss to drop to 2-1 in the playoffs. Emond stopped 10 of 11 shots in 35:05 of work. The Bucks were 1-5 on the power play while Amarillo was 1-9.
