Golden Park to Welcome John H. Moss Thursday

September 10, 2007 - South Atlantic League (SAL) - Columbus Catfish News Release

Columbus, GA - John H. Moss, South Atlantic League President, will visit Golden Park for the SAL Championship Series game three played between the Columbus Catfish and West Virginia Power on Thursday, September 10 at 7pm. It will be the last visit to Columbus for Moss as president before he steps down on December 31, 2007 and thereafter assumes the position of President Emeritus. Moss will throw out the ceremonial first pitch prior to Thursday's game.

The longest tenured league president in Minor League Baseball, and the only president in the history of the SAL, is in his 50th and final year as President of the SAL. Therefore, the Catfish will offer 50-cent Pepsi soft drinks and 50-cent popcorn. It is also Singles Night, so the Catfish offer one-dollar beer and hot dogs. Also, college students get one-dollar admission with a student ID.

Game three will feature starting pitchers RHP Jeremy Hellickson (13-3, 2.67) for Columbus against RHP Donovan Hand (1-2, 2.16) for West Virginia. Games one and two will take place on Monday and Tuesday in West Virginia. Games four and five, if necessary, will take place on Saturday and Sunday in Columbus.

This year is the post-season debut for the Columbus Catfish. The Catfish swept the Southern Division series in two games against the Augusta GreenJackets. The last post-season action for Columbus was the 2002 Columbus RedStixx, who lost the League Championship series three games to two against Hickory. Columbus seeks its first professional baseball championship since the 1986 version of the Columbus Astros.
