Gold Sox End Losing Streak with Walk-Off Win over Sacramento

The Marysville Gold Sox snapped a six-game losing streak with a walk-off 14 - 13 win over the visiting Sacramento Stealth last night at Colusa Casino Stadium. The win propelled the Gold Sox back into first place and the first GWL team to win a league high 18 games.
The Sox had two off days to start the week, and the team used the time to clear their heads and reset heading into a four game home stand. The Sox looked to re-energized as they took an early 4 - 0 lead and were up 13 - 6 heading into the ninth inning. However, the Stealth fought back in the ninth inning and mounted a comeback, scoring seven runs and sending twelve batters to the plate. The Sox bent, but they did not break, ending the top half of the inning with a tie, and holding on to score one more in the ninth for the walk-off victory. Taggart Baxter hit the game-winner and drove in Kyle Hoffman for the win.
Sox starter Shinpei Kanamori pitched well through five innings, giving up two runs on three hits and striking out six. The Sox offense was led by Chris Papapietro who finished with five hits, two RBIs, three runs scored and two stolen bases. Baxter went 3 for 5 with two RBIs, Jed Sprague went 2 for 5 with two RBIs and Taggart Baxter was 3 for 5 with two RBIs of his own. The Sox will be staying at home for a three game series against the Chico Heat starting tonight at 7:05 p.m. Thursday night's game will feature an Illes Golf Academy Golf Ball Drop Hole in One Giveaway and Environmental Alternatives Foster Family Appreciation Night. Friday night the Gold Sox are "Golding Out" Colusa Casino Stadium, and any fan who wears gold will get a free upgrade at the park. There will also be $5 Not Your Father's Root Beer Floats and $3 domestic beers to help keep the party going. Saturday night is Recology Fireworks Night at the park after the game.
