LONGUEUIL, Monday October 25th 2004 (QMJHL) - After Jonathan Boutin, of the P.E.I. Rocket, and Stanislav Lascek, of the Chicoutimi Saguenéens, goaltender Martin Houle, of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, became the third player in the Québec Major Junior Hockey League this season to be recognized two weeks in a row, after being selected, on Monday, Defensive player of the Week for the period between October 18th and October 24th.
On offense, the honour was given to Mathieu Aubin, of the Lewiston MAINEiacs.
In three games, Houle, who was also named CHL Player of the week last Friday, helped the Screaming Eagles collect five points out of a maximum of six. He ended the week with a record of 2-0-0-1, a goals-against average of 1.33 and a save percentage of .951.
The 19 year-old goalie, an eight round draft pick of the Philadelphia Flyers in June 2004, suffered his only loss at the hands of the Halifax Mooseheads, 3-2 in overtime, on Wednesday.
In that game, Houle faced 36 shots while the Screaming Eagles were limited to only 19 shots.
The following night, as the Screaming Eagles were playing the fifth and final game of a seven-day road trip, Houle stopped 27 shots and was named third star in a 5-1 victory over the Rocket, in Charlottetown.
Houle completed his week by stopping 18 shots on his way to his second shutout of the season, by a score of 1-0 against the Drummondville Voltigeurs, on Sunday night.
Houle was selected ahead of goaltender Jean-Philippe Levasseur (2-0-0; 121 MP; 1.49 GAG; .939 SP) of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, and ahead of defencemen Louis-Philippe Lachance (4-1-3-4) and Marc-Ãdouard Vlasic (4-1-6-7), both of the Québec Remparts.
As for Aubin, whose selection as Offensive Player of the Week follows that of teammate Jonathan Paiement, he collected four goals and as many assists in three games.
On Wednesday, against the Baie-Comeau Drakkar, Aubin earned first star after scoring the tying goal, 29 seconds into the third period, and the insurance tally some three minutes later, in an 8-5 win.
Friday night, during an impressive 10-2 victory over the Rimouski Océanic, Aubin added two goals and three assists.
The son of Normand Aubin, a member of the QMJHL Hall of Fame and former NHL Player, Aubin totalled nine of his team's 45 shots in that game. Five of those were qualified as menacing shots.
In the voting, Aubin was preferred to his teammates Alexandre Picard (3-5-2-7) and Alex Bourret (3-0-8-8), and to David Krejci (3-2-4-6) of the Gatineau Olympiques.
