GLIFL All-Star Game Plans Many Festivities
August 3, 2006 - Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) News Release
The last game of the GLIFL's inaugural season may be seen as more of a party than an actual football game. That's understandable, as the GLIFL and its six inaugural-season teams have reason to celebrate. All six teams completed a full season of games, and the All-Star Game is another means to promote the high-quality 7-on-7 football the league is known for. The league had one of the most exciting championship games in indoor football history. Most importantly, fans saw the GLIFL product and went home satisfied.
That is cause for celebration.
So, with much help from Lehigh Valley (host of the All-Star Game) owner Jim DePaul, the league is planning a celebration for fans. At half-time at the All-Star Game, fans will be selected and will have the choice to kick a longer field goal for a 2007 Pontiac from Ken Carr Pontiac, or a shorter field goal for a $1,000 Vacation Package from Marriott Hotels. There will be numerous other giveaways.
OutKast, Jolly Holly the Clown, and the Lady Outlawz will also be performing at the game. The Outlawz have also formally invited numerous guests to the game, which may bring another dynamic to the game to make it even more exciting for fans.
"We want to thank our fans for a great first season," said GLIFL Co-Founder Jeff Spitaleri. "We know it wasn't a perfect season, but we also know what we can do to make it better for 2007 and beyond. I also want to invite fans that may have a concern to email or call the league office (330-649-9950 and info@glifl.com) to let us know where we could make things better, if at all. Without the fans, the league will fail."
Scouts from a number of AFL teams will also be at the game, which coupled with game films being sent to the other franchises will help GLIFL players get a fair look to move up in football. The GLIFL is a developmental league, and the opportunity provided here helps the league with that goal.
Tickets for the All-Star Game are as low as $10 and are on sale wherever Lehigh Valley Outlawz tickets were sold.
The GLIFL will kick off its second season in March 2007 with at least eleven franchises. The league is working on further expansion to increase the number of member teams, to help with geographic rivalries.
