The Gwinnett Gladiators have agreed to terms with defenseman Sam Roberts for the 2010-2011 season.

Roberts returns to the Gladiators after playing his rookie season in Gwinnett last year. He ranked second in scoring among Gladiators defensemen with 40 points (10g, 30a) in 70 games. He also represented Gwinnett at the 2010 ECHL All Star Game in Ontario, California, where he posted a goal and an assist to help the American Conference squad to a 10-9 victory.

In addition, Roberts earned two call ups to the American Hockey League during his rookie season and appeared in 3 games with Syracuse and 2 games with Lake Erie. He did not register a point while in the AHL.

Prior to turning pro, Roberts played four seasons at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. In 109 career collegiate games from 2005-2009, the St. John's, Newfoundland, native posted 70 points while leading all defensemen in scoring at St. Francis Xavier in three of his four collegiate seasons.

Roberts spent three seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) from 2002-2005 with Hull and Gatineau. Roberts skated with the QMJHL President Cup champions in back to back seasons with Hull (2003) and Gatineu (2004) and helped both squads advance to the CHL Memorial Cup Championship.

The Gwinnett Gladiators open the 2010-11 season on the road before returning home to host the South Carolina Stingrays on Friday, October 22nd at 7:35 p.m. The Gladiators are the AA affiliate of the Atlanta Thrashers and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
