Orange County Gladiators News Release
Aliso Viejo, CA (December 11, 2007) - Can you say winning streak?!?! The Orange County Gladiators beat the San Francisco Rumble 128-107 Sunday night to make it two wins in a row and three out of their last four. On the night President and Owner David Clarke turned 40, we witnessed multiple out-of-your-seat alley-oop dunks, a fan win season tickets on a half court shot at half time, and all 11 Gladiators get a mark in the scoring column.
Orange County carried a 35-26 lead in the 2nd quarter, but in four short minutes saw that lead evaporate. With the game tied at 45 and six minutes to go in the half, you got the feeling the Gladiators were going to follow their 2nd quarter trend and stumble to close the half. But Tarron "The Beast" Williams decided to take over. Following a San Francisco turnover in the back court, Williams took full advantage of the 3D rule and nailed a 3-pointer to make it a four point lead that the Gladiators would never relinquish. And the Beast didn't stop there. Two more defensive stops, and two more buckets for Tarron gave the Gladiators eight straight points.
Then came the play of the night. With the half coming to a close, "Sick Wit It" lobbed a 40 foot alley-oop to "J.D.," Jerry Dupree, who seemed to snatch the ball from the defender and slam it home giving Orange County a 65-51 half time lead.
The Gladiators kept the excitement going in the second half. With Orange County cruising to an easy win, the team decided to have some fun. Two more 4th quarter alley-oop dunks, one by Amani Danish, and one by newcomer Lamar Gayle ignited the crowd. Saul Lankster got a piece of the action as well with a 3-pointer giving him his first points of the season in front of the record home crowd.
After Orange County's 0-5 November, December has been a different story for the Gladiators. OC is 3-1 and finally seems to be comfortable with one another. They're also learning a thing or two from former NBA veteran, and player/head coach Tony Farmer. Farmer is averaging 24.5 points, along with seven rebounds, 3.5 assists, and two steals per game in their first four home games.
Up next for the Gladiators are two more home games Saturday, December 15th and Sunday, December 16th. So bring the family for a night of fast paced, high flying basketball fun. Tickets and information on this weekend's games can be found at the Gladiators web site at www.ocgladiators.com.
