Gladiators Defeat the #1 Ranked San Diego Wildcats 122-107
December 23, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Orange County Gladiators News Release
After a 0-5 start, there could have been a big cause for concern about this seasons prospects with the Orange County Gladiators. The team was giving up in excess of 120 points a game and had little flow on the offensive side. Coach's Tony Farmer and Edgar Menedez continued their pursuits of installing confidence in the group while also evaluating and upgrading the roster filling several key concerns. Last week the organization started to reap the rewards of their patience by cracking the top 10 ranking with the ABA's weekly poll as the team won 5 of 6 games to improve their record to 5-6. After a disappointing loss to the Long Beach Breakers on the road Thursday night, the team came into the weekend at 5-7 with the prospects of facing two of the top 5 teams in the league including the top ranked San Diego Wildcats on Saturday night.
The Gladiators demonstrated their resolve and potential by bouncing back from the defeat. The team continued to show that all of the early seasons maneuvering and hard work are paying off as they soundly defeated the Wildcats 122-107 in a game that the Gladiators seemed the control from the outset. The Gladiators were led by the scoring of Lamar Gayle, the sound overall play from Tony Farmer and the controlled, disciplined floor leadership of Robin Kennedy. In addition, their were very significant contributions from Phil Givens, Tarron Williams and Hondre Brewer in a well balanced attack that showed the potential and depth of the Gladiators. By far their best outing of the year, the Gladiators return at home Sunday night at 5:15PM to avenge Thursday's loss at the hands of the Long Beach Breakers. A win would improve the teams overall mark to 7-7 and surely continue their upward climb in the weekly ABA rankings.
