GK Jake Feener Inks Deals with Roughnecks for 2016
January 21, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
FC Tulsa News Release
Tulsa Roughnecks FC has addressed another position on the field with its most recent player signing. The Roughnecks and Head Coach David Irving announced today that goalkeeper Jake Feener has come to terms with the USL club for the 2016 season. Feener becomes the first goalkeeper signed by the team for the upcoming campaign.
The 24-year-old resident of Sacramento will return for his second season with the Roughnecks. Feener took over starting duties midway through the 2015 season and appeared in 13 matches, compiling a 1.46 goals against average.
"I am excited to return to the Roughnecks for the 2016 season and be a part of a great organization and fan base," said Feener. "I hope to help the team continue to move forward with the progress that we made last year."
Feener made his professional debut on July 9 in storybook fashion. Facing the Orange County Blues, he set a USL season high with 13 saves in a 4-1 victory for the Roughnecks. The performance earned him the USL Player of the Week Award and a spot on the league's Team of the Week.
Tulsa recorded two wins and a draw in his next three appearances to move back into the Western Conference playoff race.
Feener remained in goal for the rest of the season and finished with a 7-3-3 record, including two shutouts. His .756 save percentage would have placed him fourth best among all USL keepers if he would have appeared in enough matches.
Feener will join the Roughnecks in time for the start of preseason training in mid-February.
Season tickets for the Roughnecks 2016 campaign are currently on sale at the ONEOK Field Ticket Office, at TulsaRoughnecksFC.com and by calling (918)744-5901.
