Giving Back, the UIF Way

April 9, 2007 - United Indoor Football Association (UIF) News Release

Omaha, NE - United Indoor Football teams are making major contributions to their communities in a variety of ways. In the past month, UIF players, coaches, even owners have been tallying up community service hours. The Evansville (IN) BlueCats participated in 11 events to put them in the lead for the UIF Extra Points Program.

UIF Extra Points is a program initiated at league meetings in January that keeps track of each team's community service hours. Communications Director Dave Holly is pleased with how well the program is going. "I'm thrilled with the participation across the league," he said. For each hour of community service recorded by a team, they receive an "Extra Point." The team with the most points at the end of the calendar year will receive a donation in the team's name to the charity of their choice.

Evansville has put in more than 138 hours since the program began by helping with the Boys & Girls Club, the YMCA Kid's in the Kitchen program and the MDA Stride N Ride. RiverCity Rage players and mascot took part in a Hoops for Heart fundraiser at a St. Charles, MO area middle school in early March. Later in the month they served as honorary judges in a chili cook-off that benefited the American Heart Association.

The Sioux Falls Storm hit the hardwood in a charity basketball game for a nearby high school's Music Booster Club. In Rockford, IL, the Rock River Raptors players and front office read to elementary school students and went bowling at midnight for a youth baseball fundraiser.

The Colorado Ice made a $10,000 donation to the United Way of Larimer County. Ice owner, Danny DeGrande, spent time as an honorary bride for the "Bridesmaids Bowling for Breast Cancer" event that helped raise more than $10,000 for the Hope Lives Breast Cancer Support Center in Fort Collins.
