Gillespie Earns Rawlings Minor League Gold Glove Award

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.-Reno Aces outfielder Cole Gillespie has earned a 2011 Rawlings Minor League Gold Glove Award, Minor League Baseball announced today.

Gillespie, who spent the entire 2011 season with Triple-A Reno before being recalled to the Arizona Diamondbacks, becomes the first member of the Aces to have earned a Gold Glove Award. He was the lone D-backs farmhand to collect a Minor League Gold Glove this season, and was 1-of-2 Pacific Coast League players honored.

Reno's everyday right fielder, Gillespie finished 2011 with a .993 fielding percentage. He led all Aces outfielders with 10 assists and 275 putouts. His 10 outfield assists were second-most in franchise history, and he was one of just eight PCL outfielders with double-digit assists last season. Gillespie has registered 41-career Minor League assists.

The Oregon State product helped lead Reno to a team .982 fielding percentage-second-best in the PCL and tops in club history.

Gillespie joins a record-setting list of award winners from the 2011 Aces, who won the PCL's Pacific Northern Division for the first time. Also this season, the Aces were awarded five PCL Player of the Week honors (Wily Mo Peña, 2x; Collin Cowgill, 2x; Cody Ransom) and one PCL Pitcher of the Week selection (Wade Miley). Tony Abreu, Cowgill, Ransom and Konrad Schmidt were elected to the PCL mid-season all-star team, while Cowgill and Ransom were selected to the All-PCL Team. Cowgill also earned PCL Rookie of the Year honors, while Josh Cuffe was named PCL Strength Coach of the Year, and Eric Blanton was named PCL Sports Turf Manager of the Year.
